SKIN ALLERGY TRADE SECRETS

“SKIN ALLERGY – TRADE SECRETS”I have been in the professional skincare industry for 11 years. I find inspiration in listening to other educators and experts in the field. I am always reading anything regarding skincare and health challenges. I do not limit myself to industry knowledge and I incorporate the consumer avenue to see what they are talking about. I learned the most when working at the FDA laboratory. Working with clients to help formulate product lines and the knowledge of ingredients has really helped me in my current position. Ingredients are always changing in regard to new discoveries on ways to improve skin, as well as new methods of ingredient delivery. With the wellness trend still thriving, I see a need for more customized services and products to treat individuals that have skin or fragrance sensitivities due to a variety of internal/external sources. Ingredients are an important aspect of every consideration in this industry. Even with intake forms, clients should be aware of the ingredients they are using and the aesthetician should be aware of any contraindications the client may have. Many ingredients are contraindicated due to medications, menstrual cycles, allergies, current home care regimens, and even previous surgeries where lymph nodes were removed. The best spas have a great intake form as to really understand a client’s concerns and possible issues that could cause reactions in the treatment room. The spa staff should also be knowledgeable in the right treatments and home care for their clients. The spa management team should be willing to listen to the needs and concerns of their staff and clients and be able to adapt to upcoming trends in the industry as it is always changing. I tell every client to listen to what their bodies and skin are telling them. I also advise them to let their skincare professional know of allergies, medications, and past surgeries so the best treatment plan can be developed to treat their skin concerns with no adverse reactions.

SWEET SUMMERTIME BRIDESMAID HAIR

SWEET SUMMERTIME BRIDESMAID HAIR

The Roaring Twenties are in full swing, so get ready to dust off your formalwear and prepare to dance the night away at all those postponed weddings that are finally happening.

For all you bridesmaids out there (we know, it’s never as fun as promised), who love an updo, here’s a breakdown of four different ways to style the front of your updo to bring the heat and glamour all night long.

First look: Center part with loose pieces framing the face

bridal-hair blog 3

Step 1: Begin at the top of the ear and spray Kenra Hot Spray 20 and create loose curls going away from the face with the flat iron.
Step 2 : As you work your way up, begin to backcomb and spray Kenra Volume Spray 25 to lock it in place.
Step 3: Once you’ve completed the curls on both sides, run your fingers through to soften the hair. Then softly begin to twist and pin back the curls organically towards the center back.
Step 4 : After your pieces are in place, go through with the Kenra Volume Spray 25 and lift the roots with your fingers for a natural look.

Second look: Side part without any pieces out

Step 1: Start at the top crown and begin to backcomb the roots, and spray them with Kenra Volume Spray 25. Then, work your way down, curling pieces away from the face with a flat iron. If you’re not comfortable using a flat iron, you can use a 1″– 1.25″ curling iron.
Step 2: Once you have all the pieces curled, pin the hair back, row by row, detailing and placing hair as you go. By working this way, you will create a dimensional look. As you work up, be sure to direct the hair back instead of down. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the opposite side.

Third look: Swept back hairstyle

Step 1: Start by sectioning the front mohawk and clipping it aside. Then begin on one side and spray the hair with the Kenra Hot Spray 20 from roots to ends.
Step 2: Curl hair away from the face and up with a one-inch curling wand. Work the hair back with your fingers, spray with the Kenra Medium Spray 13, and pin the sides of the hair in the back. Repeat process on the other side.
Step 3: For the mohawk section, spray the hair with the Hot Spray 20. Then saturate the hair before using a smaller iron to create a tighter curl pattern. Work the curls back with the Medium Spray 13 and secure with bobby pins. Pay special attention to the very front sections and take your time detailing to ensure everything is cohesive and in the right place.

Fourth look: Classic side part with loose face-framing pieces

Step 1: Backcomb the side sections, spray with Kenra Hot Spray 20 and curl with the flat iron away from the face.
Step 2: Comb the flyaways into place. Pull the side curls back, and bobby pin them in place.
Step 3: Take the very front piece and tuck it behind a part of the hair above the ear. Repeat on the other side.

5 WAYS TO FIGHT DRY HAIR THIS SUMMER

After a spring spent mostly indoors, we’re guessing more than a few of you are planning to spend as much time outside this summer as your schedule permits. (Socially distanced picnic, anyone?) Which is all well and good, until you realize all those hours soaking up the sun have left you with dull, dry hair that’s full of split ends. It’s one of those unfortunate summer side effects that feels inevitable—but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these five quick tips for keeping dry hair at bay all summer long.

1. Use a gentle shampoo.

Between swimming, exercising outdoors, and that icky-sticky feeling summer sun and humidity can leave you with, there’s a decent chance you’ll be washing your hair more than usual. To minimize wear and tear, reach for a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo that will cleanse without stripping your hair’s natural oils. All of our shampoos are sulfate-free, but if you’re looking for a place to start, we recommend Hydrating Shampoo. It works for all hair types and contains nourishing argan oil and moisturizing red algae, making dry hair a thing of the past.

2. Don’t forget sun care.

We all know that basking in the sun sans SPF is a huge no-no when it comes to your skin. But have you considered the effect all those rays might have on your hair? Our multitasking Protect & Prevent Spray is a lightweight hair protectant formulated to help prevent color fade and brassiness. It also contains—you guessed it—sunscreens to help absorb UV rays, and weightlessly increases softness and shine. Use it before you step outside and forget dry hair ever darkened your doorstep.

3. Commit to a weekly hair mask.

We’ve covered the reasons why absolutely everyone can benefit from a good hair mask. This is particularly true when summer rolls around and the battle against dry hair begins. Fortunately, we take hair hydration so seriously that we created not one but two moisturizing masks. Intense Hydrating Mask work on medium to thick, dry hair to dramatically improve hair’s texture, elasticity, shine, and manageability. Weightless Hydrating Mask has the same benefits, but in a lighter formula that won’t weigh fine hair down. Both are easy to use and don’t require heat to deliver results. Just apply throughout towel-dried hair (use a wide-tooth comb if needed to ensure even distribution). Leave on for 5–7 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

4. Make moisture part of your daily routine.

Treating dry hair isn’t a one-and-done type deal—it’s an ongoing process. Maintain the magic your mask has worked by incorporating moisturizing styling products into your everyday routineMoroccanoil Treatment is an ideal daily go-to, because you can use it on its own before air-drying or as a nourishing foundation for other styling products on days when you need to step up your game. Feeling a blowout? Reach for anti-frizz Hydrating Styling Creamto add soft hold + mega moisture to your look. (And don’t forget to protect your hair from heat damage with Perfect Defense!)

5. Minimize heat styling.

Flat irons, blow-dryers, and curling irons sure do work magic, but they also tend to compound the drying effects of summer. Whenever possible, skip the heat and let your hair dry on its own. Try air-drying with Moroccanoil Treatment (or Intense Curl Cream, for curly girls) to fight frizz and boost shine. To zhoosh up already dry hair, you can’t beat Dry Texture SprayMending Infusion is also a must-have for dry hair styling. In addition to sealing split ends, it combats other visual signs of damage and contains a blend of argan oil and baobab extracts to leave hair silky and touchable.  With the right tools in your arsenal and a little bit of experimentation, you’ll be on well on your way to finding an air-dried look you love.
